Does your website use <h1> header tags? Google does not recognise a heading just because you use a larger font, headings must be placed inside header tags for Google to recognise a heading.
Google uses what is found in the <h1> heading tags and between 250 - 300 other variables to determine where your website appears in search results. By making small changes to your website, such as putting in header tags, we can dramatically improve your ranking in search results.
Those who know a little about SEO will optimise their site for the keywords most relevant to their business.
But this can be a mistake! There is no point optimising for keywords that receive very little searches. It is like opening a shop on an island, who is going to find your business there? If you say your website is about "Leather Belts" and my website has a link to your website that states "Click here for Leather Belts", then Google will trust that your site is about "Leather Belts" more than someone else's site which does not have any supporting testimony.
Whilst our methods are affective and proven, Search Engine Optimisation can take time. It depends on how old your website is, how much traffic it receives and the level of 'trust' that Google currently has in your site.
A word about Pay Per Click advertising (ie: Adwords):
From our own e-commerce experience and from extensive research, we have come to the conclusion that Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising is effective for the purpose of gaining exposure but not for generating sales. This is because the average consumer is aware that the "sponsored" listings are not the most relevant search results as anyone can pay to be included in those particular results. The majority of people will purchase from sites which they found in the organic listings. Adwords and other PPC advertising is a great tool to use until your site is performing well for those particular keywords, they should then be reduced or removed.
